How to Cook Asparagus on the Stove

Ingredients

1 pound asparagus (1 bunch)

2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil or butter (I always use 1 Tbsp of each)

1/4 tsp garlic granules

1/4 tsp sea salt and black pepper

juice from 1/2 a small lemon

Directions

  1. After rinsing the asparagus and patting dry with a towel, cut off the tough ends (often referred to as ‘woody ends’) of each of the stalks.

  2. Add olive oil and/or butter to a large cast iron skillet over medium heat. Add the asparagus to the skillet, using tongs to move the asparagus around allowing to coat with the oil. Cover and allow to cook over medium heat for 4 minutes.

  3. Remove lid, use tongs to again move the asparagus, and allow to cook uncovered for 3-4 additional minutes. Add garlic granules (or substitute with garlic powder or 2 cloves minced garlic), sea salt, and black pepper, adjusting to taste. Squeeze half of a small lemon over the top, and serve immediately.
